In less than a decade, the population of Perth city has increased 80 percent, exceeding the nation's average rate. In the year to June 2010, Perth's population increased by another 37,000 and accounted for just over three quarters of the State's growth for the period. Armadale, south east of Perth and Swan (taking in the Midland region) north of the city were two of the five local government areas accounting for more than a third of the State's growth.
Perth has become the fastest growing capital city in Australia and it's important that this dynamic environment is supported by sustainable economic strategies. At the MRA, economic sustainability is an integral part of our triple bottom line approach.
The MRA is an Agent of the Crown reporting to the Minister for Planning and operates with an independent Board. The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Act gives the Authority the power to acquire, assemble and sell land, as well as control development.
Our unique role means we are engaged in the full scope of a revitalisation project. This integrated approach, coupled with State Government backing, provides certainty to our investment partners.
Investment opportunities in our central city projects (including Perth City Link, Perth Waterfront, Perth Cultural Centre and Riverside) and in our Subiaco, Midland and Armadale projects represent billions of dollars in infrastructure investment.
