Four new planning Land Redevelopment Committees will support the delivery of Perth’s major urban renewal and redevelopment projects.
Planning Minister John Day said the committees had been established to advise the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) board on planning matters involving Perth’s CBD and key strategic suburban centres.
“The MRA is delivering a co-ordinated building program that will fundamentally transform our city, attract billions in private sector investment into WA, and create and encourage vibrant communities across the metropolitan area,” Mr Day said.
“These four committees - for Armadale, Central Perth, Midland and Subiaco - represent a cross-section of experience in local government, planning and urban renewal and show a strong understanding of the needs of local communities.
“The committees will use delegated planning powers to provide advice on the development and delivery of urban redevelopment projects.”
The Minister said former redevelopment authority chairmen Don Humphreys, Charles Johnson and Dr Fred Affleck would respectively chair the Subiaco, Armadale and Midland committees, while the Central Perth committee would be chaired by WA Planning Commission chairman, Gary Prattley.
“The State Government, through the MRA, is working to meet the challenges of a growing city and it will be a significant advantage to use the knowledge and skills of these former chairmen in continuing that strategic direction,” Mr Day said.
This is an important period for Perth with projects such as Perth Waterfront, Perth City Link, Riverside, and the Perth Cultural Centre revitalisation creating a renewed city with a network of residential, employment and lifestyle opportunities.”
