The Government of Western Australia

Planning

The Authority’s Planning division is responsible for enabling the revitalisation of land within each project area of our four Redevelopment Areas. This entails the preparation of a strategic and statutory framework to guide planning for sustainable, vibrant and high-quality built environments.

Our four Redevelopment Areas are Central Perth, Armadale, Midland and Subiaco. Each of these redevelopment areas has its own distinct planning framework designed for the needs of each area, and brought together under the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Act 2011.

MRA Planning is responsible for managing development within each of our project areas by assessing Development Applications and implementing Redevelopment Schemes, Design Guidelines and Planning Policies.

In addition, the Planning division incorporates an Urban Design team and a Strategic Planning team who are responsible for redevelopment strategies, policies and evaluation frameworks for corporate and project activities. This includes promoting important planning initiatives such as sustainable development, affordable housing, transit oriented development, heritage and public art.

Our approach to Urban Planning is ultimately led by our vision for a revitalised Perth. This vision is based on delivering design and development excellence through great public environments, high quality buildings, connecting people with places and ensuring a successful mix of land use and activity.
