More than $250million in major construction contracts have now been awarded for Elizabeth Quay.

Managing Contractor

The $200million Managing Contractor contract has been awarded to a partnership between Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd and Broad Construction Services Pty Ltd. The contract includes the construction of the 2.7ha inlet, creation of future development sites and new internal roads and the delivery of high quality parks, promenades and an island with a connecting bridge. Inlet construction will commence in mid-2013, starting with excavation on the northern side of Riverside Drive, with the bulk of inlet excavation due for completion in 2014.

Forward Works

To prepare for the construction of the inlet, Georgiou Group is currently undertaking road works and service infrastructure upgrades as part of a $50million forward works contract. Georgiou's contract includes:

• site remediation;
• construction of a new bus entry into the Esplanade Busport;
• creation of a new citybound link between the Point Lewis Rotary (under the Narrows Bridge) and William Street to provide an alternative route into the CBD from the west; and
• closure and full reconstruction of William Street (south of The Esplanade) as a two-way street.

Barrack Street Jetty Works

Jetty reconstruction works are being undertaken at Barrack Street Jetty by Maritime Constructions. The works commenced in August 2012 and include the demolition of Jetty 6 (the western jetty), an extension of Jetty 5 and the construction of new finger jetties to Jetty 1 to make way way for construction of the inlet. These works are due for completion in late April 2013.
