Planning Framework
Planning for the Perth Waterfront project has been extensive and is ongoing. The Master Plan shows the major design elements of Perth Waterfront, highlighting how the public realm areas will relate to sites within the project area and reconnect back to the existing city structure. Planning is well advanced with full site investigations (geotechnical, environmental and hertiage) and detailed design of public works completed. The WAPC has sustantially progressed statuory approvals across the planning, heritage and environmental portfolios.
The indicative site plans are intended to give an indication of the possible layout of built form and how it might integrate with the surrounding public spaces. All plans and diagrams are indicative only and are not intended to represent actual building designs. The ultimate configuration and scale of buildings, including height, massing, site coverage and use mix, will be determined at a later date.
The detailed design of buildings will be undertaken by private developers in response to built form guidelines currently being prepared for Perth Waterfront.
Redevelopment Scheme
The MRA has initiated an amendment of its Redevelopment Scheme and the preparation of design guidelines for the precinct.
Metropolitan Region Scheme
An amendment to the MRS was tabled in Parliament on 18 October 2011. This consolidates a range of parks, waterways and regional roads reserves to Public Purpose Special Use, reclassifying the land to enable Perth Waterfront to proceed.
Environmental Considerations
As a part of the statutory approvals process for Perth Waterfront a Section 38 referral under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 has been made for the purposes of constructing the inlet and undertaking associated works.
On 16 January 2012 the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) determined that the proposal does not require environmental assessment. For information about the decision, the media statement issued by the EPA can be viewed here.
