Waterbank

The Waterbank site is located on a man-made foreshore at the eastern entry to the Perth CBD, adjacent to the Causeway Bridge. It will become an activated, prime visitor destination on the riverfront, with a blend of entertainment, commercial, retail and residential uses. The precinct will feature a natural beach area surrounded by public promenades, green open space including a large wetland area, and a direct connection from Hay Street to the Swan River with a new river pier.

For MRA, achieving innovative urban design outcomes and iconic architecture is a key objective. However, balancing this development outcome with the conservation of the natural riverine environment is an essential part of the vision.

The precinct will set an example for demonstrating innovative and globally-leading sustainability practices across environmental, social and economic planning and development outcomes. This includes innovative urban water management systems, improved ground and river water quality, and the restoration of the foreshore. These proposed sustainability initiatives are unique to a development of this size in Perth.

Surcharging and site stabilisation works are underway at the Waterbank site, adjacent to the Causeway, which will prepare the site for future construction. In February 2013, an agreement was signed between Lend Lease and the MRA which will allow Lend Lease to progress their plans for this flagship site with construction expected to commence in late 2014.
