Works Updates

The MRA’s Riverside project will help transform the eastern gateway into the city and create a vibrant new destination for the people of Perth and visitors to the city.

Works to achieve the vision for Riverside are now underway and will involve stabilising ground conditions to ensure the site is ready for future public spaces and development, and creating new connections that will cater for the growing numbers of people who will live, work and socialise in the Riverside area.

These infrastructure works will occur on and around the Waterbank site, which is adjacent to the Causeway, Trinity College and the WACA.

Works planned for 8 May 2012 to 20 May 2012

Waterbank site

  • Construct working platform on site. A roller will be used to compact material for creating the platform. There will be minor impact on Hay St road users with some delays experienced due to trucks entering and exiting.
  • Removal of redundant stormwater pipe. Involves using excavator to excavate and remove existing stormwater pipes.
  • Construct water treatment ponds on site to store and treat groundwater generated from surcharging.
  • Continue sheet piling installation along the length of the river’s edge (this will act as an additional safety measure to stop groundwater entering the Swan River). Please note some noise disturbance may be experienced. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the path as normal with traffic controllers on the site to maintain safety of path users.
  • Mobilise and commence the installation of wick drains into the ground.

Braithwaite Road

  • Installation of underground infrastructure. There will be minor impact on road users with trucks entering and exiting.

Causeway/Hay Street

  • Installation of underground infrastructure. There will be some impact on road users due to traffic control being installed.

Hale Street

Works will be conducted on Hale Street, between Nelson Crescent and Hay Street, to modify the street to become two-way and open to local traffic.  These works are expected to be completed in May 2012. Pedestrian access will not be affected, with signage in place to direct pedestrians along the eastern side of Hale Street. Transperth services formerly in Hale Street can now be taken from Nelson Crescent. Please see the Transperth service disruptions page for more information on this and other alternative bus stops and routes.

Hale Street works include:

  • Installation of new electrical conduits.
  • Construction of asphalt road and installation of kerbing.
  • Installation of drainage structures.
  • There will be minor impact on Hay St road users with some delays experienced due to trucks entering and exiting.
