First commercial buildings start at Perth City Link

The State Government has marked the start of construction on the first commercial building in the heart of the Perth City Link project.

Planning Minister John Day said the plans for Kings Square - developed by Leighton Properties - represented a significant investment in the future of Perth.

“In total, Kings Square will contain 95,000sqm of office space, 7,000sqm of retail and community spaces and 520 apartments, responding to the growing demand for new commercial, residential and retail development in the city,” Mr Day said.

Development approval has now been confirmed for four buildings with a number of major tenants and funding partners also secured by Leighton Properties.

“These buildings will boost the working population of the city and include activation at the ground level that will enliven the surrounding public areas,” the Minister said.

Mr Day said the commencement of works onsite today at Kings Square came as the State Government marked two other significant project milestones - the shortlisting of proponents to construct the underground bus station and the first train is expected to travel through the new rail tunnel next month.

“Perth City Link is one of the most exciting projects being undertaken in Australia - one that is fundamentally changing the face of our city,” he said.

“It is a positive reflection on the Perth City Link project that corporate giants such as Shell Australia and DEXUS Property Group have chosen to be part of it.”

Together with Elizabeth Quay, Riverside and the revitalisation of the Perth Cultural Centre, Perth City Link is a key part of the Government’s vision to transform Perth and deliver much-needed places for people to live, work and visit.
