Members of the public can now walk amongst the historic buildings at the Midland Railway Workshops for the first time in more than 16 years.
Public access to sections of the site has been restored ahead of the annual ANZAC Day service held at the Workshops’ Memorial Gardens.
In addition to footpaths and roads being reopened alongside some of the iconic buildings, a new footpath has been created which connects Coal Dam Park and the Helena River foreshore.
Visitors can also experience a new temporary walking trail throughout the site, sharing information about Midland's past, present and future.
This improved access is a result of subdivision works being undertaken to help prepare the site for future development.
