The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Board has resolved to approve a development application for a 4-storey retail and office development on the corner of Station and Hood streets in Subiaco.
The $96million development comprises two levels of basement parking; a supermarket, department store and retail spaces on the ground and first floor; and office space over the second and third floors.
The MRA has been working with developer Greg Pearce and his design team over the past 6-8 months to ensure a number of community and stakeholder concerns were addressed, including enhancement of the pedestrian environment, management of traffic flow along Station Street and the interface with the Subiaco Square precinct.
MRA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ryan Keys, said the vision for the Subi Centro project was to create a high quality built environment, with employment opportunities in close proximity to public transport links, and that this development was a continuation of that plan.
“This development will provide new retail and shopping opportunities for Subiaco and will complement adjacent residential developments including The Strand, Centro One and the Viridian and Indigo developments at China Green,” Mr Keys said.
The site of the development is currently home to the popular Station Street Markets.
“While the new use of the site will create change for stallholders and workers from the markets, this investment from the private sector will facilitate new job opportunities during construction, and provide a future place of work for local residents, as well as reinforcing Subiaco as a retail destination” Mr Keys said.
