Midland’s resurgence is continuing, with Western Australian-based Aigle Royal Properties chosen as the preferred proponent to redevelop the former Midland Saleyards site.
Aigle Royal will develop the 14 hectare site into a new light industrial, large format retail and commercial area providing new services to the area.
Planning Minister John Day said this was another significant milestone in Midland’s growth and a major step forward in the area’s renewal.
“Being close to the Midland town centre, key infrastructure and excellent transport access, the saleyards site is in a perfect location to provide new retail options for people living in Midland and the surrounding areas,” Mr Day said.
“The site is expected to be a future workplace for about 500 people and is one of several underutilised areas which are being transformed to create more opportunities for employment, housing, commercial and community development.
“Together with a new medical and education precinct, including a new public hospital opening in November and proposed plans for the new Curtin University medical school, Midland’s exciting future is rapidly taking shape.”
The Minister said the investment was facilitated by the Midland Master Plan and builds on the strong momentum generated by land sales in the workshops precinct.
“The MRA has worked to secure private investment into the area, resulting in more than $30 million of development applications approved in the last financial year,” he said.
“Great success is also being experienced in the residential market with all lots within the Railway Square precinct now either under offer or sold to a range of private developers with plans for new housing and short-stay accommodation.
“These new developments are breathing new life into Midland, celebrating the area’s history and continuing its transformation into a thriving metropolitan centre.”
