Vivid artwork brings Arena forecourt to life

A striking interactive sculpture has captured the imagination of visitors to new Perth Arena.

The artwork, entitled Totem, is a piece by renowned artist Geoff Drake-Brockman and is the latest colourful addition to the Perth public art scene. Totem stands at nearly 11m high and features 108 moving sections.

The moving sections are computer controlled and react to nearby pedestrian activity – with human movement causing the bright yellow triangular pieces to rotate and reveal a violet interior.

It also incorporates multi-coloured laser projections which will light up the Arena façade at night.

“The artwork reflects the culture and identity of Perth – upbeat, vibrant and connected,” explains Geoff.

“Visitors to the Arena and pedestrians walking by will be able to experience the interactive sculpture and vivid laser projections onto the building. It is also able to be experienced from a distance – by people looking towards the Arena from elsewhere in the city, or driving by on the Freeway.”
