The new Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority came into effect on January 1, ushering in a new era in Perth’s revitalisation.
Created by the amalgamation of the four existing redevelopment authorities in East Perth, Subiaco, Midland and Armadale, the MRA will take responsibility for completing key revitalisation projects across the metropolitan area in partnership with industry and the community.
The new Authority will retain the benefit of a facilitative, flexible model to oversee delivery of some of the State Government’s most exciting and important inner-city projects, including Perth Waterfront, Perth City Link, Riverside and the Perth Cultural Centre.
These transformational projects will not only make Perth a more vibrant, liveable and contemporary city, but will also help address the critical shortage of office space in the Perth CBD, which currently has the country’s tightest office market with a vacancy rate of 3.2%*. They will also help bring much needed new hotel accommodation to the city and meet the growing demand for inner city dwellings.
Each of the four former redevelopment authorities have proved enormously successful in Perth, delivering quality social, environmental and economic outcomes and providing a high level of investor certainty to support private development.
By building on that success, the new MRA will continue to create successful and sustainable communities.
