Milestone for Claisebrook Village urban renewal project

7 September 2011

EPRA’s transformation of an industrial wasteland into the vibrant cosmopolitan community of Claisebrook Village is now 85 per cent complete, marking an important milestone for the urban renewal project.

Stage 2 Normalisation of the Claisebrook project area is now complete, Normalisation is the process of returning redeveloped land within the East Perth Redevelopment Area to the planning control of the Local Government. Stage 2 Normalisation of Claisebrook Village will return a further 12 per cent of planning authority for the project area to the City of Perth.

Normalising Planning Authority involved a 30-day period of community consultation with affected landowners, residents and businesses. During the normalisation process EPRA also worked closely with the City of Perth and the Department of Planning in order to ensure that appropriate planning provisions would remain in the area after normalisation.

Completion of the Stage 2 Normalisation sees the City of Perth regain responsibility for controlling and approving development within the Stage 2 normalised area as shown on the Claisebrook Village Stage 2 Normalisation Map. Normalisation will not affect residents or businesses unless they plan to make modifications to their property, in which case the planning application will be lodged with the City rather than EPRA.
