Why is it called Yagan Square?

The name Yagan was chosen to reflect the great historical and cultural significance of the area to Noongar people. Yagan was a Noongar leader and warrior. His contribution to WA history was significant and he is celebrated as a very influential and important figure within the Aboriginal community.

The Yagan Square area was traditionally an important meeting place for Aboriginal people, particularly women, who gathered food from the lakes that were once in the area.
