Subiaco set for future transformation

  • Subi East

The State Government recently announced plans to keep Perth Modern School in its current location and develop a new local intake secondary school on Kitchener Park in Subiaco.

The MRA has been tasked with delivering the project which will also include identifying future redevelopment opportunities for Subiaco Oval, the Princess Margaret Hospital site and neighbouring land.

Premier Mark McGowan said that the State Government was listening to the community and developed a new plan that delivers a new inner city secondary school.

Our new plan to build the school and transform the Subiaco Oval site into a community hub will create thousands of jobs and deliver a vibrant neighbourhood on the edge of the CBD.

Preparations have begun to transform the precinct into a new vibrant neighbourhood. The MRA is working with the City of Subiaco to identify a new Subiaco Redevelopment Area boundary.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti added that the new school location would make the best use of Subiaco Oval for students and the local community.

The transformation of Subiaco Oval will ensure existing infrastructure, including Subiaco and West Leederville train stations, are utilised as part of the new community hub.

"From a planning perspective, the new school is strategically located serving the growth inner city suburbs with quality transport connectivity. The new precinct will include new modern housing options and a mix of community facilities that supports the existing high street in Subiaco."

Design work for the school will begin immediately whilst the necessary statutory planning, project planning and site works get underway to enable construction to begin by June 2018. The school is due to open in time for the first intake of year 7 students in Term 1, 2020.
