The Esplanade improvements

  • Scarborough

Works to improve The Esplanade will be underway throughout 2017. The improvements include:

  • A new upper promenade
  • New roads and walkways
  • New landscaping, kerbing and verges
  • Installation of new street lights, bike racks, signage and rubbish bins

Works will be completed in smaller packages and programmed around more substantial construction activities. There may be impacts during this time including road closures, detours, changes to pathways, reduced space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Access to local businesses and residential buildings will remain in place at all times although there may be some slight adjustments to pathways throughout the works period.

Current works

The Esplanade is currently undergoing works from Peter's by the Sea through to Brighton Road.

  • All road surfaces, kerbing and footpaths are in the process of being removed.
  • In the area around the roundabout, new water pipes are being laid.
  • Power conduits are being laid down The Esplanade and storm water pits are being installed.
  • Works have started on backfilling and compacting areas.
  • Pouring of exposed aggregate has started along areas of the footpath.

Future works

  • Finish pouring exposed aggregate along pedestrian areas
  • Complete the sub-surface works along the road
  • Construction of the retaining wall in front of Cold Rock.

The pedestrian areas will be complete by end September, and works will focus on the roads.
