Visitors show respect by throwing a handful of sand into the water as an introduction to spirits and ancestors according to Noongar customs.

The Ethereal Welcome Hand will eventually illuminate to represent sand pouring through fingers and onto the ground.

The sculpture sits four metres above the ground and can be found between the surf club building and swimming pool.
